Choose a collecting rule
Record the driver, car number, year, sponsor design and scale for each purchase. Those fields help separate look-alike releases. A photo of the base and packaging is useful when a listing title is incomplete.
Check each edition
Compare the car shown in every listing with its written description. Look at the number, roof markings, wheel style and any visible production notes. Older stock may vary by seller; condition and packaging should be judged from the specific listing.
Build a small first set
The 1999 Ernie Irvan NASCAR model and 1996 Terry Labonte model illustrate two different years and liveries. Keep a simple inventory with the purchase date and the exact variant so duplicates are easy to spot.
